A man dies on a plane
A plane traveling from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulance and was forced to an emergency landing at Bangkok Airport.
One passenger, a 73 -year-old British man, likely died from a heart attack. Additionally, 30 people were injured, including seven critically. The Boeing 777 hit an air pocket in Thai airspace, which led to turbulance. Many passengers and crew members were treated at a field hospital on the tarmac. One passenger recounted the terrifying moment when the turbulance hit. He described how objects flew through the air, and some passengers were injured. The seat belt sign had just turned on when the turbulence occurred. The man was uninjured because he had fastened his seatbelt in time.
Airline experts noted that sudden turbulence with no warning is rare but possible. The incident resulted in one death, seven critical injuries, and multiple other injuries among passengers and crew.

An explosion at Yellowstone National Park
A hydrothermal explosion at Yellowstone National Park surprised visitors and caused them to run for safety as steam, rock, and dirt shot into the sky.
The explosion was possibly due to minerals clogging an underground pipe. No injuries were reported, but the explosion damaged a boardwalk in the Biscuit Basin Area. Videos of the event show water and debris raining down over the park. Hydrothermal explosions are somewhat common in Yellowstone. They occur when underground water turns to steam. Similar eruptions happened in the Biscuit Basin in 1959, 1991, and 2009. Predicting these events is difficult as they can happen instantaneously. The Park Service will investigate if the explosion altered the underground system by measuring the chemical makeup and temperature of nearby geysers and vents. Despite the explosion, no changes in the volcanic system have been detected, and the park remains at normal activity levels.

From cockpit to cab drivers, companies want more women to fly them
The outsized miniature Airbus 320 Neo hanging from the ceiling marks the entry of I-fly – a seven storey building where India’s largest airline, IndiGo, mints pilots out of fresh college graduates. It was here, during the six months of training that many women graduates sat in an aircraft for the first time. They were part of a batch of 77 that the airline inducted yesterday to mark Independence Day. The airline has 800 women pilots, the highest among any commercial airlines in the world but it is still 14% of the 5,038 pilots it employs whereas overall female representation in the company is 44%. The airline is determined to change that and has set a plan to increase the number to 1,000 by the end of this year, say officials. The airline announced the hiring for the special batch in January. “These are inspiring stories. Many of them who hail from rural areas will go on to inspire women around them who became encouraged to take up the profession, breaking the perception that the cockpit can be dominated by only male.” Ashim Mittra, senior vice president at IndiGo, said.
