The Communicative Approach in language teaching starts from a theory of language as communication. The goal of language teaching is to develop what Hymes (1972) referred to as "communicative competence". Hymes coined this term in order to contrast a communicative view of language and Chomsky's theory of competence. (RICHARDS, J.C., e RODGERS, T. Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching. New York: Cambridge University Press, 1986, pp.159-161)
In the excerpt:
"Classroom discourse mediates between pedagogic decision-making and the outcomes of language instruction (…) . Teachers plan their lessons by making selections about what to teach (_______________), how to teach (_______________), and perhaps also the nature of the social relationships they want to encourage (_______________). When acted on, their plans result in "_______________". This is not planned in advance, but rather is "co-produced" with the learners. In part, it will reflect the pedagogic decisions that have been taken, but it will also evolve as part of the process of_______________." (ELLIS, R. The Study of Second Language Acquisition. Oxford University Press, 1994, p. 573.); the blank spaces in the text can be correctly filled with the following words in the order presented in option:
